Gift Ideas

Here are some travel gift ideas from the Go Somewhere New team. Some fun, some unusual, some luxurious.

Power Traveller Power Monkey approx. £17

This is a backup battery for all your gadgets. You charge it from the mains and it in turn can be used to power your phone/cameras/ipods etc. Perfect when you are miles from an electric point. For just under £40 you can get the Powermonkey Explorer version(see picture) which can also be charged from its own  solar panel.

Note: check that the gadgets you want to charge have connectors available.

Victorinox 06228T2 Jellylite Classic - Blue approx. £18

If you know someone who doesn't already have a Swiss army knife  get them this. There are lots of different models to buy but this would be my choice as a perfect travelling companion with scissors, screw driver, knife, tweezers and a built in torch.

Fanning Signature Sandal (bottle opener) Fanning Camo Sandals (corkscrew) approx. £20

Trendy Reef sandals with the addition of a corkscrew or bottle opener built into the sole. Brilliant. I know exactly who I'm getting these for.

Twister Beach Towel approx. £11

It's a good size beach towel and a lot of fun as well..

Animal Globe (Insight Globes)  approx. £7

This is a great present for a child interested in animals. Show them where giraffes live and where your next holiday will be.

Trunki Ride on Suitcase "Freida the Cow" approx. £34

This may be a suitcase, but for a child it's also a cow and a toy to ride on. That's three presents in one. This is a limited edition so it will only available in this design until the end of the year.

Canon EOS 450D Digital SLR Camera Kit (incl EF-S 18-55mm IS f/3.5-5.6 non USM Lens Kit) approx. £435

For a digital SLR camera I think this is the best camera out there both for functionality, performance and price. I have the 350D and can't fault it and I'm very tempted to upgrade to this.

Joby Gorillapod from £10

Available in SLR and compact versions is this wonderful tripod that grips to anything. It's a brilliant design. So much more versatile than a traditional tripod.

Monopoly Here & Now:The World Edition approx. £30

The classic family game but with cities from around the World and digital credit cards rather than cash. Now you can travel across six continents on Boxing day. Apparently there was a vote to decide which are the top 22 cities that should feature on the board. Find out which cities made it here.

1000 Places to See Before You Die Calendar 2009 approx. £6

If you know someone who likes to travel and needs a calendar this is my favourite. Each month features one journey with a big picture, a map, highlights and a number of smaller pictures. It's a bit like a cross between our Country and Trip pages.

Lunch on the Orient Express for two from £499

have a wide range of gifts for couples that includes trips on the Orient Express. 4/5 hours on the British Pullman with lunch and afternoon tea for two from £499 .
